The problem

Your PHA knows the answer. Nobody can get to it.

Every completed study holds hundreds of scenarios, causes, consequences and safeguards. Recorded once, by a team that will not be in the room again for five years, in a document that runs 400 to 600 pages.

When something unexpected happens on shift, nobody opens it. The knowledge is unreachable at the moment it matters.

Recorded once

A study is a point in time. Operations lives with it for the next four or five years.

Written for the session

Structured for the team that built it, not for the person facing a decision at 2 a.m.

Impossible to search

Not by meaning, not by equipment, not against what other sites have already learned.

What it is and who it is for

Built for the people who have to decide.

For operations

A strange smell at 2 a.m. An alarm you do not trust. A compressor that starts but may not be ready to load. Ask what has happened elsewhere before you decide.

For engineering

Is this scenario credible. Is it already covered. What do similar units do about it. Check your reasoning against industry experience rather than memory.

For facilitators

What did this HAZOP miss. Generate the questions that keep a session consistent, and catch the scenario the team has not reached yet.

Industry search. Everyday language. No PHA upload required to start.

Comparison

Why a generic AI assistant is not enough for process safety.

Generic AI assistantRisk Alive AI RIC
Where the answer comes from Searches internet for public textbooks, standards summaries, articles, forums, social media Real PHA and HAZOP studies on real facilities
Who produced the source material Unattributed without proof-checking 26,000+ contributing industry experts, working in real-world facilitated risk assessment sessions
Level of detail General knowledge of hazard scenarios Unit type, named equipment, operating mode, deviation, cause, consequence, credited safeguard, recommendations and decisions
When it has no matching data Answers anyway, assuming Tells you it found nothing, and suggests the terms that may work

It tells you when it does not know.

A general assistant will answer almost any question, whether or not it has anything to base the answer on. Ask the Companion about something outside the dataset and it says so, then tells you what would work.

User

What are the top threats in nuclear processing unit?

AI RIC

I can't find a unit type matching “nuclear processing” in the available taxonomy.

Try a different unit or technology term, for example the specific process area or equipment, and I can pull the top threats for that. Examples:

  • reactor
  • fuel handling
  • waste treatment
  • centrifuge
  • solvent extraction
  • storage tank

If you want, give me the exact unit type name you use, and I'll look up the top threats for that.

An answer you cannot trace is worth less than an honest empty result. This is the behaviour that makes the rest of the answers usable.

Where the data comes from

Real studies. Real facilities. Real decisions.

The dataset is built from completed operational PHA and HAZOP studies conducted by professionals at operating companies. They are the issues real teams identified, assessed and recorded during real risk assessments.

Diverse, not house style

Multiple methodologies, multiple companies, multiple regions. Not one consultancy's way of running a study.

Still growing

New studies are added continuously.

Operational, not theoretical

Every entry comes from a study a real team completed on a real asset.

445 unit types across refining, upstream and midstream oil and gas, petrochemical, agro-chemical and fertilizer, mining and oil sands, pulp and paper, power generation, LNG and LPG, water and wastewater, terminals and loading.

“The main advantage of the tool was cutting my working time to several minutes instead of several days.”
“The data was not theoretical at all. The data is from companies which deal with the same problems as we have.”
“This knowledge is often not sufficiently utilized in daily practice. I see the greatest value of the RIC in its ability to make this knowledge more accessible, actionable and continuously usable instead of allowing it to end up in a knowledge graveyard.”

“It replicates the role of an experienced facilitator during PHA sessions. It helps maintain consistency in questioning and can reduce the likelihood of overlooking important scenarios.”

Common questions

Common questions

What can I search by?

Hazards and deviations, such as overpressure, high temperature, low flow, loss of containment or reverse flow. Failure modes and initiating events, such as loss of cooling water, valve failure, tube rupture, seal failure, blocked outlet or power failure. Equipment and process context, such as compressor, reactor, distillation column, tank, fired heater or heat exchanger. Consequences, such as toxic release, fire, explosion, vessel rupture or environmental release. Safeguards, such as PSV, shutdown, alarm, interlock, gas detection, operator response or relief to flare.

You can also ask a risk-ranked question directly, for example what the highest-risk threats are for a hydrocracker, or what safeguards are used for loss of cooling water.

Do I have to upload anything to use it?
No. Everything on the free plan runs on the industry dataset, which is searchable without submitting any files. Uploading your own studies is optional and unlocks searching your data alongside the industry data.
What does it cost to start?
Nothing. Free self-serve sign-up, immediate access, no sales conversation, no credit card required.
How is this different from asking a general AI assistant?
A general assistant answers from public text. Risk Alive answers from completed operational PHA and HAZOP studies, with the equipment, deviation, failure mode and credited safeguards as real teams recorded them, and tells you when it has no matching data.
Do I have to use the same words as the original study?
No. Studies are indexed by meaning as well as by wording, so “loss of CW” finds “cooling water failure”, “cooling water unavailable” and “failure of cooling-water supply”. You do not have to guess how another company's team phrased it.
How does a completed PHA study become searchable?

Each worksheet row is broken into its parts and the relationships between them are kept intact: the node it applies to, the deviation, the cause, the consequence, the risk, and the safeguards credited against it.

Risk stays attached to the specific cause and consequence path rather than to the topic, so the same deviation with two different consequences keeps two different severities. Safeguards are stored once and linked to every scenario that credits them, which is why you can search by a safeguard and find every scenario relying on it.

Is this data updated?
Risk assessment data keeps growing, as new studies are contributed. It includes recent asset classes such as battery energy storage and carbon capture.
