Learn to Lead PHA & HAZOP Studies with Confidence

PHA/HAZOP Facilitation Course Overview

What separates a great PHA/HAZOP facilitator from an average one? In this Risk Alive webinar, experienced process safety expert Bryce Boehmer shares the hard-won lessons from a 30+ year career facilitating over 4,000 Process Hazard Analyses across oil & gas, pipelines, nuclear, chemical, pulp & paper, and offshore drilling operations worldwide.

If you are preparing to lead your first HAZOP, sitting on PHA teams as a participant or scribe, or looking to sharpen your facilitation skills, this session gives you a clear, practical roadmap for what good facilitation actually looks like, and how to develop the judgment that no textbook can teach. Strengthen your process safety knowledge or take the next step in your career!

Bryce Boehmer - White Background-1

Chemical Technology Diploma, PHA Facilitator, TapRoot Investigation/RCA, SIL-D/LOPA Facilitator, Instructor

Webinar Summary

Bryce walks through the full anatomy of a well-run PHA: what a PHA is and how it differs from a HAZOP, how to select the right methodology (HAZOP, What-If, Checklist, FMEA, LOPA) for the stage of design or change you're evaluating, how to build the right team and define quorum, how to read P&IDs like a book, how to handle conflict in the room, how to keep momentum when information is missing or drawings are out of date, and how to maintain quality control so your name on that PHA report means something.

He also addresses the reality most training programs skip: you will not walk out of a course as a finished facilitator. Bryce explains the realistic path from participant, to scribe, to facilitating simple What-Ifs, to eventually leading complex HAZOPs on live process systems, and what it actually takes to get there.

Bryce Boehmer is a highly experienced PHA/HAZOP facilitator.

With 30+ years of technical and process safety expertise and more than 4,000 PHAs facilitated across virtually every processing industry, from offshore drilling in the Beaufort Sea to modern pipeline operations, Bryce brings a depth of real-world experience that few instructors can match. He is an active member of the Process Safety Community of Practice at Energy Safety Canada and has spent the last several years teaching the next generation of facilitators through Risk Alive's training programs.

Our Training Benefits

  • Senior facilitators with 30+ years of active field experience. Every engagement and every course is led by practitioners like Bryce Boehmer, who has personally facilitated over 4,000 PHAs worldwide and is still actively facilitating today, not junior consultants or retired instructors teaching from dated theory.

  • Practitioner-led instruction. Our courses are taught by instructors who actively facilitate PHAs in the field. You learn through real case studies, live examples, and hands-on facilitation exercises drawn from situations Bryce has actually lived through, the conflicts, the missing information, the design errors caught at the last minute.

  • Flexible delivery. In-person in Calgary, in-person on your site, online live, or online on-demand.

  • Tailored to your processes, units, and data. For onsite and private sessions, Risk Alive can customize training content to your company's specific processes, units, and operational data, so your team learns on material that reflects their real working environment.

  • End-to-end partnership. From senior-led PHA/HAZOP facilitation services, to training your internal team, to equipping them with the analytics and AI software, Risk Alive supports the full process safety competency journey.

  • Professional development credits (CEUs / PDHs). Participants earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or Professional Development Hours (PDHs) to support ongoing professional certification and career development.

  • Government grant eligibility. Many participants and companies qualify for government training grants that can help offset course costs. Contact Risk Alive to learn which programs may apply to you.

  • Complimentary software access. Every course graduate receives free 90-day access to LivePHA™, Risk Alive's proprietary PHA software and our Risk Intelligence Analytics platform, and free 30-day access to our AI PHA Assistant, proprietary tooling that helps facilitators and teams identify weak signals, benchmark risk, and improve PHA quality over time. No other PHA training provider offers this.

Register for Risk Alive's PHA/HAZOP training programs:
