About the SIS (TÜV Rheinland) Course
The SIS (TÜV Rheinland) Certification Course is a five-day intensive program based on IEC 61508:2010 and IEC 61511:2016.
It builds practical competence to design, implement, assess, and manage Safety Instrumented Systems in high-hazard industries, providing both the technical foundation and applied skills required for effective, risk-based safety management.
Key Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the principles and terminology of Functional Safety (FS) and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
- Interpret and understand the requirements of IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 within real industrial contexts.
- Understand Hazard & Risk Assessments as part of the SIS Safety Lifecycle.
- Allocate safety functions to appropriate protection layers.
- Understand the principles of SIL Determination methods such as:
- Fault Tree Analysis
- Safety Layer Matrix
- Calibrated Risk Graph
- LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis) - Know what Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS) are.
- Understand the work involved in SIS design, engineering, verification, validation, and lifecycle management requirements.
- Understand Functional Safety Management (FSM), auditing, and Functional Safety Assessment (FSA) principles.
- Confidently participate in activities across the SIS Safety Lifecycle.
